1. ♥A short circuit is an abnormallow-resistance connectionbetween two nodes of anelectrical circuit that aremeant to be at differentvoltages.
♥There are cases where shortcircuits are causedintentionally, for example, forthe purpose of voltage-sensingcrowbar circuit protectors.
2. ♥a fuse (short for fusiblelink) is a type of overcurrentprotection device. Itsessential component is a metalwire or strip that melts whentoo much current flows, whichbreaks the circuit in which itis connected, thus protectingthe circuit's other componentsfrom damage due to excessivecurrent.
♥Current flowing through a wireheats the wire. The length of awire affects its resistance,which determines how muchcurrent flows in the wire andhow hot the wire gets.
3. ♥Whenever electrical wiring ina building has too much currentflowing through it, circuitbreakers cut the power untilsomebody can fix the problem.Without circuit breakers (orthe alternative, fuses),household electricity would beimpractical because of thepotential for fires and othermayhem resulting from simplewiring problems and equipmentfailures.
4. ♥Overload in a circuit occurswhen a larger than intendedelectric current exists througha conductor, leading toexcessive generation of heat andthe risk of damaginginfrastructure and equipmentand causing fires.
5. ♥This excessive current loadcan be a result of electricalinsulation failure ( a shortcircuit) or human error. Acorrectly designed electricalsystem incorporates suitableoverload protection devices toprevent damage should such asituation occur. Fuses andcircuit breakers are mostcommonly employed for thispurpose.
6. ♥In an electrical overload, itleads to excessive heating ofthe wires and a possibility offire.In a short circuit, anaccidental low-resistanceconnection between two nodes ofan electrical circuit that aremeant to be at differentvoltages. This results in anelectric current limited onlyby the Thevenin equivalentresistance of the rest of thenetwork and potentially causescircuit damage, overheating,fire or explosion.
